Conflict Between Groups of People

Many people in German East Africa had conflicts. The Africans didn't want Germans to go to their land so they fought them and lost. Also, they didn't want to follow the laws of the Germans so they resisted that too, but they had to follow. With the Africans resisting everything that the Germans wanted them to do, the Maji Maji Resistence came about. As time went by, the Germans brought in missionaries to German East Africa to demolish native beliefs.

German East Africa is a colony because Germany is a foreign power and it's ruling a different country, which is East Africa.

Direct or Indirect rule?

Germany in German East Africa are under indirect rule. Britain's unwillingness to provide resources required to administer its vast empire. They didn't have enough time and money to be out in public and speak to their people, they let other people do it for them.

Why Germany was involved in African territory?

The reason Germany was involved in the African territory was for competition of preeminence. Germany was competing for power within European power politics. Germany wasn't the only country fighting for African territory, Britain, France, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain were too.

History of German East Africa Before Imperialization

German East Africa was originally a collection of warring african tribes. This was similar to much of Africa. Ethinic groups such as the Shambaa had a nomatic lifestyle. Very little agriculture was used. They often herded camels. Eventually the area was united under the Zanibar Arabs. The area transformed into a center of commerce. The first Europeans to settle there were originally the Portuguese. The Portuguese turned their attention toward the New World, and eventually left. The German later arrived and took control of the area.
